Client Overview

OrthoGeorgia has been a staple in the Central Georgia community for decades. Home to national leaders in orthopaedic surgery, OrthoGeorgia provides comprehensive spine, hand, total joint, foot and ankle, and sports medicine care at several offices and surgical centers throughout the region. Their care specialties extend to rehab, physical therapy, diagnostic imaging, and more, making the practice the perfect place for patients to find everything they need. When OrthoGeorgia started a partnership with TB, we recognized that a new website was needed, and a strategy had to be put in place post-launch so that we could boost the practice’s numbers and top priority services – orthopaedic spine care and urgent care.

OrthoGA Case Study - Desktop

The “Crux”

Once OrthoGeorgia’s new website was up and running, we dove head first into optimization and revamps of the spine center and urgent care pages (along with other service pages) to ensure they could rank for target search queries. Our ultimate goal was to help OrthoGeorgia dominate local search results for their core services while facing the potential volatility of a new website.

The Strategy

After the client let us know that spine care and urgent care are their most prominent services, we began optimizing these pages on the new site. Core efforts included utilizing broader keywords and adding supplementary content where possible while optimizing SEO elements like headers, title tags, and meta descriptions. Part of this work included a keyword focus on terms like “center,” “specialist,” and “surgeon,” along with targeting different variations of related keywords (such as using both “spine surgeon” and “back doctor”). We’ve recently begun building out condition pages to branch off the spine center page. We anticipate positive results for these pages in the near future, as this effort allows us to focus on an even wider variety of spine-based keywords.

Julia Chirichella, SEO Strategist

“Building a new website for OrthoGeorgia has allowed us to get their performance to an all-time high. Faster page load times, improved site speed, and better responsiveness across different devices all play a big part in the new site. Not only is the site faster, but with better UX and UI, any new or existing patient will have a great experience. I’m excited to see the growth in performance, how users will respond, and how the site will do with SEO in terms of reach.”

What are Core Web Vitals?

No matter what type of website you have or business you run, getting on Google’s good side is key to maintaining competitive rankings in search results. Over the years, Google has released countless updates to the search algorithm, ranking factors, and more, so those in the digital marketing industry must constantly be aware of changes and understand how to adapt. However, one of Google’s recent updates has been bigger than most – Core Web Vitals, which became a significant ranking factor in June of 2022. Core Web Vitals are a standardized set of metrics that Google has stated have an impact on rankings, as they contribute to your total page experience score. The three page speed and user interaction measurements that make up Core Web Vitals are Google’s way of sizing up your user experience and getting an idea of whether or not visitors can find what they need quickly and effectively. Positive user experience has always been important for conversions, but knowing that it is also a ranking factor means your site needs to be built for success. Learn more from our digital marketing experts at Today’s Business about Core Web Vitals and how you can make the proper site optimizations to dominate your target search queries.

Components of Core Web Vitals: Explained

Google is dedicated to providing the best possible results to its users, which is why it is so important to meet their criteria when it comes to page experience. Primarily focused on page speed and user interaction, Core Web Vitals metrics consist of three components:

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)
  • First Input Delay (FID)
  • Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)

It is important to note that page experience is just one of many ranking factors that Google considers. However, Core Web Vitals are now a major part of the page experience, so optimizing these items is essential for organic ranking success. It’s great to know the names of the three core components of CWVs, but what do they mean?

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)

Largest Contentful Paint measures the time (in seconds) it takes from the start of your page load to the rendering of the largest text block or image element. This is Google’s way of determining how long it takes to load the core components of your page, as the largest text block will most commonly contain the main content of the page. The goal here is to have as low a number as possible, correlating with a fast page load time.

First Input Delay (FID)

This component of Core Web Vitals measures the time it takes for a user to interact with your site. This can include anything from choosing an option within your menu to entering an email address into a form field. This gives Google a clear picture of how your users interact with your site and showcases your site’s responsiveness to user activity. FID is vital for pages that require quick interaction, such as a login page. This moment and your site’s ability to properly serve its users is a valuable snapshot of your site’s overall interactivity and responsiveness, which contributes to your page experience score.

Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)

CLS focuses on the visual stability of a page as it loads all of its elements. Both Google and your users don’t want to see page elements that move around as the site loads, making the page experience confusing. Page elements that tend to shift when CLS is not optimized include fonts, images, videos, and contact forms, among other items. There are several reasons why your site may have CLS issues. Something as simple as adding height and width dimensions to your images can improve your overall Core Web Vitals score.

Why Are Core Web Vitals Important?

Core Web Vitals are Google’s way of ensuring they display the best possible sites to their users. If you saw a drop in your organic rankings after June 2022, negative CWVs may be partly to blame. Taking the time to optimize your site with CWVs in mind is crucial. We don’t always know what Google is considering when they rank sites in search results, but in the case of Core Web Vitals, we know exactly what we need to fix for success. Some of the many benefits of optimizing your CWVs in 2023 include:

  1. Improve Overall User Experience
    • Making sure site elements are visually stable helps to improve the overall user experience on your pages and leads to a steadier, more solid website.
  2. Speeding Up Your Site
    • Addressing page speed issues helps keep users on your site. A slow site can prompt users to leave before converting.
  3. Benefiting All Areas of Your Digital Marketing
    • Improving user experience translates to boosts in organic rankings, more engaged users, increased conversion rates, and other benefits that will help you stand out in the crowd.

What Tools Can I Use to Measure Core Web Vitals?

dTqWv6xW5S2QXEsZiAOEFWBtVkNT1XucSP76HxhU0sB7oCrz5KS9d7hJ3vxlCkZhKUl4ClfD4 jMbXLSqkKqy1l2DGH8XfI1 H9lADXbGhPbPcdytpVu643roaTc89q84nO7QO2ymOLcPPnkcQdj9pI

Various online tools can help you understand how your site is performing in terms of CWVs. Google Search Console has a dedicated section for CWVs where you can see how your site is performing and which pages may need a boost. For a quick look into your site’s CWVs, Google’s Page Speed Insights Tool is the way to go. Simply inserting your URL and running a check will show you Google’s data on your URL, including data on your LCP, FID, and CLS. These are just two of many tools that you can use to measure your CWVs and see where you stand with Google before you dive in and start to update your site.

How to Improve Core Web Vitals for Your Website

Learning about Core Web Vitals: check. When you want to get going with site optimizations and ensure your site meets Google’s CWV criteria, there are many steps you can take depending on which aspect of CWVs you want to start with. It’s difficult to summarize them all in one place, but some high-level insights into work that will improve your CWVs include:

  • Largest Contentful Paint
    • Set up lazy loading, so images only load when someone scrolls down your page.
    • Upgrade your website hosting.
    • Remove large page elements that are slowing down your total speed.
    • Remove unnecessary third-party scripts from your site.
    • Minify your CSS.
  • First Input Delay
    • Reduce JavaScript (JS) execution time.
    • Optimize the HTML of your images.
    • Remove unnecessary third-party scripts.
    • Use a browser cache to help load content faster.
  • Cumulative Layout Shift
    • Add size attributes to your images, videos, and other media.
    • Avoid inserting content above content that’s already loaded.
    • Create dedicated space for ad elements.

CWVs Impact on Healthcare Organizations

At Today’s Business, we’ve seen growth and success for clients who’ve committed to letting us tackle their CWV issues. One of the biggest improvements we’ve seen has been with a plastic surgery practice, whose performance had been struggling due to Google algorithm updates. We optimized desktop Core Web Vitals to ensure that the site was passing Google’s criteria, and since then, we’ve seen both short and long-term improvements in organic acquisition metrics, service page performance, conversions, and more. When we analyzed Quarter 4 of 2022 (during which CWV issues were addressed) vs. Quarter 3, we found that organic landing page clicks increased 50.5% while impressions increased 116%, along with a 32% increase in search query clicks and a 113.5% increase in search query impressions. Explore our case studies for more insights into the work we’ve done for clients of all kinds!

Benefits of Web Design Using Pinegrow

Pinegrow is a powerful tool that is often used by website professionals to create completely customized websites from scratch. Our team can also use the platform to update existing websites, so whether you want an entirely new site for a rebrand or want to refresh your current site, we have what it takes to get the job done. This website builder is compatible with Linux, Windows, and Mac, and works with website platforms such as Bootstrap, Foundation, and WordPress. This versatility is crucial, as it allows our team to take your preferences for your site into account while still being able to use a consistent tool. There are many ways that Pinegrow website builds benefit both our team and the businesses we are building sites for.

Ability to Quickly Create a Mockup

As part of the web design process, we strongly emphasize communication with our clients and ensuring they are fully satisfied with the designs we create. This is often accomplished through a review of mockups of all elements of the site, from menu layouts to service page designs. Pinegrow allows our team to quickly and easily create and edit mockups of the site we are building so that you can provide feedback and let us know what design direction to take.

Encourage Page Responsiveness

A beautiful site means nothing if it does not function properly. Issues like a lack of responsiveness on buttons or other elements can cause a potential customer or client to leave your site before they even learn about what you offer. Pinegrow is equipped with features that focus on website responsiveness to ensure your site runs smoothly. Taking a step further, Pinegrow also allows our team to create powerful interactions and scroll scenes with custom animations. These visual features are another way to stand out from competitors with a visually-appealing and engaging website.

Customizable Templates

Another benefit of Pinegrow is that it makes it easy to customize pre-existing templates with images and content provided by our clients. If there are existing website designs you are interested in before we start your project, we can work to make sure your preferences are reflected in your site. Once everything is set up, we’ll provide a mockup so you can let us know what you think.

Advanced Website Build Options

Pinegrow is equipped with various tools that help our website developers build advanced websites and make the updates your team is most interested in. The process of adding blocks, deleting them, rearranging page structures, and deleting code elements is easy, so you can trust that any edits you want to your site should be well within our abilities with Pinegrow. We can also edit each unique section of a page, taking site customization one step further.

Flexible Site Preview Options

We want to make sure that you are happy with the way your site looks throughout the entire design process. Pinegrow lets our team easily preview the sites we create on both desktop and mobile so that we can be sure that your site will look great no matter what type of device is used to access it. This also helps us keep a sharp eye out for HTML errors or other issues that we will tackle before launch.

Once we audit your site, we will provide strategy recommendations, next steps, and any other insights you need to dominate your target search results. Learn more about the SEO consulting services we provide below. We will create an SEO plan that puts your digital priorities at the forefront.

SEO Site Audit

A thorough site audit is an excellent way to gain insights into your site’s current SEO status. We will run and review a full audit of your site, which will focus on SEO elements, optimization opportunities, and any errors that may be hurting your Google search rankings. We understand that the intricacies of SEO can be complicated, and we will make sure that your results and information are communicated clearly and that you have the opportunity to ask any questions you have about your audit results and the best next steps for your site.

Local SEO Audit

Local SEO is crucial for local businesses, and our team has the know-how needed to help your business thrive. As part of a local SEO audit, we will determine your company’s current local SEO rankings, review your business information across listing sites and directories, and audit your Google Business Profile (GBP) listing. We will focus on your target service areas around your location and make sure that your local SEO is optimized to reach your target audience.

Backlink Profile Audit

Your site’s backlink profile is a major factor in the amount of trust Google and other search engines place in your site. An unhealthy backlink profile full of spammy sites may cause Google to devalue your site in search results, as healthy backlinks are an indicator that your site can be trusted to deliver valuable content to users. Today’s Business will review your backlink profile and the sites linking back to yours and provide insights on future link building strategy.

Keyword Report

Keywords are a key factor in SEO success. Every business has keywords that they want their site to show up for, but getting there isn’t always as easy as it sounds. Our team will review the keywords your business is ranking for, analyze keyword trends, and determine areas of missed opportunity. With these insights, you can refine your content strategy and onsite SEO elements to ensure that your site is optimized for the products and services you provide.

Competitor Analysis

A thorough competitor analysis is a great way to get insights into what your competitors are doing in terms of SEO. One of the main goals for any business is to outrank the competition, and we will provide you with actionable insights to move ahead of others in your industry via your SEO strategy. High-value opportunities could be hiding in plain sight, and we will take stock of your competition and let you know what would work best for your business.

Strategy Development and Recommendations

All of the audits and checks listed above will culminate into an SEO strategy and recommendations for your unique business. SEO has many moving parts, and our team’s knowledge will help you truly understand the best next steps for your site to achieve organic success. We will develop a personalized SEO strategy to cover the goals of your business, while ensuring that any questions you have are answered.

SEO Reporting

When you implement an SEO strategy, you will want to make sure it’s working and that results are coming in. SEO is a longer term effort, with results not always visible right away, but the long game is worth it. Today’s Business will report back on your site’s progress, continually monitor your chosen audits and reports, and provide updates on any glaring issues that may need attention.

We always recommend to our clients that a content gap analysis is performed to help identify opportunities within your services, blogs, use cases, whitepapers, and more.

How Content Marketing Complements SEO

Every website needs content – you need to provide visitors with insights about your services, products, and what sets you apart. SEO and content marketing go hand-in-hand, with optimized content being the driving force for SEO success. Every SEO strategy needs to take content into account, as it provides endless opportunities for keyword usage, internal linking, and link building. But remember: quality content doesn’t just play a role in SEO – it makes a major impact in social media campaigns, paid advertising, and more. Why? Because it enables greater flexibility in ad campaigns, more reasons to frequently engage your social media audience, and often lower costs per click for SEM.

What are the Top 10 Supplement Review Websites?

Today’s Business has assisted with marketing efforts for countless supplement brands over the past 10 years. Whether it be managing affiliate programs, providing SEO consulting services, or managing influencer campaigns we have pretty much done it all when it comes to marketing for supplement brands. During this process, we’ve had to scour the internet for credible sources with useful information on a daily basis and we have always kept track of which sources are the most reliable while also delivering information via a user-friendly experience. Below are some of the websites that we feel provide the best and most credible information.

Featured (2023): The Guy’s List

The Guy’s List is an amazing place to find all of the best stuff for guys, including supplements. The Guy’s List is one of the newer supplement review sites but does a really great job of providing quality reviews and listicles on supplements for men. What makes them unique is that they are one of the only review websites we’ve come across that has professional athletes like Brock Hoffman and elite performance coaches like John Shackleton writing supplement guides on their site.

#1 Healthline

Healthline’s website provides an array of resources so that the consumer can easily access the information that they want. For instance, just on the homepage one can go to the “health conditions” tab and choose the option that applies to them. Upon clicking on each option, anyone can find out information regarding causes and treatments. People may not want to spend a lot of time with a workout video or at the gym so the fact that Healthline offers article resources makes them more user-friendly. While all of these tabs contain valuable information, the “connect” drop-down allows for all users to find a small community within a larger one. Users have commented on the same aspects of the website. According to AP news, users like healthline because the website offers information in non-medical terms (APnews) . They can engage and understand the content in order to help themselves. In order to create a supplement site that can be enjoyed by a larger audience. One must consider who their audience is. In terms of Healthline, their audience could be moms looking for advice on their kids or themselves or just the average person looking how to take care of themselves. Once they have determined that they want their website to be easily read by anyone then they can focus on promoting wellness tips and non-medical language. Some websites may be difficult to read and navigate but Healthline displays are all right there on the screen. The website also explains in-depth different types of supplements, how to use them and their benefits. These written articles give a personal connection.

#2 Total Shape

Total Shape focuses on the fitness aspect of supplements. From the home page of their website, the reader can find an abundance of information for a variety of topics, including diets, exercise and supplements. The “supplements” drop down box offers access to different types of supplements, including protein powder, pre-workout and more. When the user chooses a supplement from the website they are then connected to an article written by fitness coaches and nutritionists employed by the company. These articles assess and give links to the best brands for their choices. For each brand, the author discusses the positives and the negatives. From this information, the user can then consider what works best for them. TotalShape definitely focuses more on the result. It gives you tips for you to better understand your lifestyle. For each supplement, TotalShape also maps out the credibility behind their claims. They list the number of hours of research, reviews and experts. This increases the legitness of the website. The pros and cons explanation of the supplement can make the consumer feel more in control of their decision thus making them more interested in using the site. Along with this, the statement that the articles are fact-checked by professionals in the medical science field gives them credibility.

#3 BarBend

BarBend offers an extensive list of workouts for users to try. They have their supplements explained under the “nutrition reviews” drop down. Similar to TotalShape, BarBend offers general types of supplements in the drop down menu and then goes more in-depth with the articles. The article analyzing women’s multivitamins is aimed at helping consumers find the multivitamin that works the best for them. The author gives links to various types of multivitamins depending on what demographic they fit in. They also provide useful information for “who should buy” and “who should not buy” ; these specificities allow the reader to have less confusion. Searching for supplements can be confusing so BarBend simplifies the process. Not only do the articles give information and suggestions but they also allow the user to take into account their preferences. For instance, you can choose from a superfood supplement, a translucent ingredient supplement and more. This feeling of control allows the user to better engage with the website. People will search for a website like BarBend when they want advice, they are looking for many options instead of just one. With one option, people will get bored so these articles that the website is providing need to have a variety of information in order to improve consumer engagement. These thorough articles are why BarBend is considered on the list for Top 5 Supplement Review Brands.

#4 Very Well Fit

Similar to the other websites, Very Well Fit offers advice regarding fitness along with eating and weight loss tips. Finding the section about supplements is not as easy as it was on the previous three sites, as it is not included in a dropdown menu. However, after typing supplement into the search bar a wide variety of options are presented. Instead of protein and workout supplements, Very Well Fit focuses on daily vitamins that people may not be getting through food. Users can read from a variety of articles describing the use of different vitamins, some that you may not even have heard of before. The purpose of these articles is to tell less about what to buy and more about the purpose of buying the product. For instance, they have a medically reviewed article about the use of fish oil. The article describes what fish oil is and what it can do for you. This allows for the reader to weigh the positives and negatives of their supplement options. The demographic of Very Well Fit differs from that of the other websites as it is more focused on general wellness supplements. Very Well Fit would be a good choice when you are looking for which daily supplement is best for you.

#5 Muscle and Fitness

Muscle and Fitness is an article-based website supporting health and fitness through writing and celebrity endorsements. Under their nutrition tab, they have articles about supplements on a wide scale. Included are testimonials, which can allow the user to understand what worked for others so that they may consider it for themselves. Other articles discuss the best supplements, whether it be for before your workout or after. Muscle and Fitness also has a women’s side to their website where they detail the best supplements for women. For the men, the content focuses more on protein and muscle building while for the women, the primary focus is skincare and workout supplements. Instead of being just listicles like some of the previous websites’ articles, Muscle and Fitness focuses on creating a story, which can keep the reader entertained. This website provides a variety of content for both men and women to enjoy and understand their supplements. They do not have to know what exactly they want, all they have to know is that they want to use a supplement. The website offers resources for finding the supplement that best fits your needs, whether it be for improving your body on the outside or inside.

#6 SupplementReviews.com

SupplementReviews.com offers extensive customer-reviews, which is a change from the professional reviews on the previous websites. From the home page, interested individuals can choose which type of supplement they would like to explore. After clicking on the supplement, the website takes them to a list of possible brands. Upon selecting a brand, anyone can view reviews from other customers. Not only are written reviews available to aid in comparison but there is also a meter that ranges from excellent to bad where previous customers can evaluate their experience. Professional reviews are important when considering what works best for your body because you would not want to take something that contradicts your health goals. However, peer reviews can be just as helpful. An average person’s recount of using a supplement can allow for other viewers to make a connection on a non-medical level.

#7 ConsumerLab

ConsumerLab has been previously assessed for legitimacy. When it comes to accurate professional opinions then ConsumerLab seems to be the place. The key figures involved in the operations of the website have medical backgrounds. A personal belief that they rely on is that consumers should be assisted by medical professionals when it comes to the topic of supplements. ConsumerLab also prides themselves on operating with  transparency for their website. They are honest about their testing processes which improves the validity of their data. Peer reviews are an accurate way to assess the relevance of a website and ConsumerLab is one of the few supplement review websites that has websites addressing whether they are a trustworthy source. These websites claim that ConsumerLab’s easy-to-use system backed by the credibility of real doctors puts them above other websites of their kind.

#8 GNC

GNC has been a company that specializes in vitamins and supplements for many years now and in addition to their store front locations, they have had a growing website. There have been different opinions on the legitimacy of GNC. However, the vast selection that the company offers is a positive for many. Another plus is that since there are several locations throughout the world, you can do online research to determine what you would like and then go to a physical location in order to consult with a customer service worker to determine if it is the best fit for you. This can lead to an increase in customer satisfaction and loyalty. Like the other websites, GNC has a delivery option. This delivery option can facilitate the buying process. Ultimately GNC has had a long reputation of being a reliable supplement provider.

#9 FitnessInformant

FitnessInformant prides itself on giving 100% honest reviews. On the homepage of the website, viewers can choose from a variety of different supplements. Including muscle recovery, pre-workout and amino acids. An explanation for each of these types is given under a picture. The viewer is then given the opportunity to select what type of brands they would like to consider. Upon choosing a specific brand, the website gives a pros and cons list. The products also give a ranking out of 10 based on several factors, including profile, effectiveness and taste. Customers also have the opportunity to give their written reviews, which allows for viewers to compare their ideas to others.

#10 MassiveJoes

MassiveJoes gives specific brands on their homepage and then the viewer can read articles related to the product after they choose which they want to learn more about. An interesting feature that this website has is that customers can decide what they want to get based on their goals. To do this you just have to go under the “goal” tab choose what you would like to improve. When initially looking for supplements, individuals may have an idea of what they would like to focus on with their new routine but may not know where to start. MassiveJoes offers a variety of explanations for different supplements that the customer can then evaluate what they think would work best for them. Instead of giving specific reviews and recommendations, this website gives people options based on what they choose and then gives a brief description of the product. For customers interested in building their own opinion with a little help from a website, MassiveJoes would be the way to go.

    • Great for people with no or little experience in creating a website

WordPress Cons

  • Monthly Updates
Requires monthly software updates which can occasionally cause issues with older plugins on the website
  • Vulnerability
Because of its open-source platform it requires knowledge of best security practices to stay safe from bots and hackers

Wix Cons

  • Lacks customization ability
Creates custom websites through simple questions
  • Not SEO Friendly
Creates custom websites through simple questions
  • Hard to transfer your site content
While Wix might be cheap now it could cost you in the future!
  • Website template cannot be changed
WIX only has two breakpoints for mobile responsive design which means you only have a desktop view (small monitor) and a mobile view. WordPress allows you to have a many breakpoints as needs so you can have large monitor view, laptop view, tablet view, and mobile view
  • Limited design
Because WIX is designed to be easy to use by people who don’t have experience with development or design it is very limited in the way you can design (or setup) your website
  • Cannot use custom domain or remove ads on free version
Because WIX is designed to be easy to use by people who don’t have experience with development or design it is very limited in the way you can design (or setup) your website
  • Tracking analytics requires a paid plan
    • You can not control where you host your WIX website which means you have to host on their platform which uses shared servers that can get bogged down and run slow.
    • You don’t own your own files or overall website when you use WIX because you can not move them to another hosting provider. Technically you’re just leasing your entire website.

Takeaways from the Team:

“Wordpress is an open source platform and that has helped it skyrocket in popularity (about 40% of the entire internet runs on WordPress). We have unlimited ability to design and develop on top of the WordPress CMS which means we can always successfully create stunning websites that bring our client’s visions and goals to life. There is no other platform available today that compares to the security, longevity, power, and flexibility of WordPress”

Benjamin Johnstone

Director of Website Development

“When it comes to SEO Wix has definitely made some strides, which at one point was an afterthought for them. Unfortunately, the benefits of Wix lie in its ease of use; that ease of use comes at a cost of losing some granular control over different aspects of a webpage that may impact SEO. Because of this lack of control, I still can’t recommend Wix for SEO purposes. WordPress is harder to work with but so much more versatile. Aspects such as creating dynamic linking structures, fully optimizing page speed, customizing the markup of your html for relevance purposes… it’s all boring stuff, but at the end of the day you don’t want to be pigeonholed into a website platform that ‘is what it is’ like you’ll inevitably be with Wix.”

Forrest Old

Senior SEO Strategist

Conclusion: WordPress is a more robust platform than Wix

As you can see from the chart and the opinions of our experts, WordPress is a much more scalable and robust solution than Wix. Although Wix may be a simpler and more affordable option, if you are looking to build a professional website that has the ability to implement custom functionality and designs then WordPress is your best option.

Client Overview

Illinois Bone & Joint Institute (IBJI) is the largest independently owned network of Orthopedic Specialists in the state of Illinois, offering over 20 different locations and 100 different physicians. At the end of 2017 IBJI had a new website developed to replace their old one. Today’s Business has been redesigning elements of the website since, including the /locations/ page in the spring of 2019.

The Challenge

For any multi-location brick and mortar service, the location parent page – or directory – provides a crucial function. Users are commonly looking for the most relevant or nearest location, and then looking how to either:

  • Learn more about that location and its offerings
  • Contact the location to secure services.

In terms of the marketing funnel, location pages represent one of the most actionable opportunities we have for generating leads. For IBJI, the page for each specific location was performing at a satisfactory level, but the directory page was suffering. At the time of assessment, the /location/ page was performing at a less than 1% conversion rate when serving as a landing page.

The Solution

Upon review of the design and the data, Today’s Business redesigned the location page to excel on mobile first.

Since most people who are doing local searches tend to be utilizing a phone, this was deemed paramount. The search function was broken down into core categories, automatic location-finding was added, and a clean search bar was placed front and center. The company’s color scheme was augmented to bring in a more dynamic aesthetic as well. The search results were also overhauled, providing name, address and phone numbers, while emphasizing the core actions of calling or requesting an appointment. All of this combined to be a very high functioning search feature that was equally easy to use via mobile. For SEO and navigation purposes, each location’s name links off to their own specific pages.

The Results From The First 3 Months

While normally we like to see an increase in Pages/Session for engagement, the opposite is true here. The function of the /locations/ page is meant to drive action, so seeing a high Pages/Session meant that the page wasn’t allowing people to find the location they were looking for effectively. By improving usability, people were more likely to convert. Overall, the results post-launch of the /locations/ page showed the importance of strong and intuitive UX. In today’s digital world, information is more prone to hacking than ever before, which creates a serious safety issue. Most websites can be developed and hosted on the Internet without thinking much about safety. Healthcare practices and other establishments in the medical industry, however, must proceed with caution for various safety reasons. In order to protect patients’ records and maintain confidentiality, medical institutions must create websites that are HIPAA compliant.

What is HIPAA?

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a federal law that provides protection and security for patients’ medical information. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services enforces this law and sets HIPAA rules and regulations. HIPAA has two rules that must be followed to be compliant with regulations. The first rule, known as the Privacy Rule, pertains to protecting the private health information of a patient. The second rule, known as the Security Rule, encourages data security measures. This rule is particularly important to address when information is stored electronically.

How to Make Your Website HIPAA Compliant

Patients’ confidential information is most likely at risk if medical websites are being hosted with protection that provides basic encryption. In order to avoid violating HIPAA rules, websites must attain a high-level protection. This concern only comes into play when sensitive information is being collected and a third-party is involved in the transaction of data.

One of the ways to encrypt the transmission of data is by ensuring the website is secure. Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) can be used to prevent data leaks. Before entering any personal information onto a medical website, be sure to look at the URL. Websites with an HTTPS:// have an SSL Certificate that encrypts communication between a web browser and a web server. This means that the medical institution is following HIPAA laws.

Another way to ensure HIPAA compliance is by using forms to collect data that provide that extra security and protection. Typical Content Management Systems (CMS) may not have that level of security so it is best to use a third-party form builder that would be HIPAA Compliant. Cognito Forms is one of the best form builders that provide SSL encryption, data encryption as well as a secure hosting environment.

Medical Website Design

Healthcare websites must ensure the safety and protection of its patients is a top priority. As technology is constantly changing and becoming more accessible, it’s becoming increasingly important to have a high-level security system on your medical website.

Here at Today’s Business, we have years of experience in building websites for our clients in the healthcare industry. No matter if you are a private practice or public institution, we can help you achieve a HIPAA compliant website that looks great on desktops, tablets, and mobile devices. We can take over your Content Management System and provide your patients’ data the safety that it requires. Contact us now to find out more!

Live chats are perfect for customers that do not like to talk on the phone, have questions after hours, or are just too busy to reach out any other way. More and more companies are utilizing live chat features like SnapEngage on their websites to help increase sales. If your business is looking to chat with customers that are browsing your website, below are some expert tips follow.

Have Information Prepared

Before you log into your live chat program, make sure that all necessary information is accessible. If you have notes prepared regarding potential questions, you won’t have to spend time looking for the answer! Some things that you may want to include are important contact information, an FAQ with commonly asked questions and even a link to Google Maps just in case someone is asking for directions to your business. You should also have your website up in a separate window so you can answer any questions regarding where to find specific information.

Turn on Notifications

Once you are signed in to your live chat service, go into settings, and turn on notifications. Since you are probably not going to want to stare at your screen for hours, having notifications enabled will allow you to do other tasks while waiting for someone to ask a question. If your notifications include sound, you may want to turn up your volume so that you are sure to be alerted.

Want to leave your computer while still utilizing the live chat? Don’t worry, many services, including SnapEngage, have a mobile app that you can download straight to your phone or tablet. This is beneficial for people that are always on the go and don’t want to stay in their home or office while monitoring their website.

Don’t Wait, Communicate

When you finally get a person utilizing your live chat feature, don’t wait to respond. You want to stop what you are doing (unless there is an emergency), and reply to your customer. If you know that you are going to be doing something that will make it difficult to answer in a timely fashion, such as driving, turn off your live chat or have a co-worker manage it. People will be a lot more understanding if they see that the live chat is closed as opposed to typing a message and not receiving a response.

Inside Tip: You may be able to set up an automated response to initial messages. Creating an automated response such as, “Thank you for chatting! I will be with you in just a moment,” will buy you some time to respond.

Be Polite, Professional, and Understanding

When people use your live chat feature, it’s most likely not because they are bored and want to talk, (I say MOSTLY because you may find one or two people just chatting to test out the feature). The majority of your live chats will be because of an issue or a serious question that needs an immediate response.

When responding to live chats, always remember to be polite, professional and understanding. If someone had a negative experience with your company, apologize and make it apparent that you are here to help. They may be upset or lose their patience; however, if you stay calm and act professionally, you may be able to turn a negative experience into a positive one.

Get Your Customer’s Contact Information

Let’s be honest, you are not going to have every answer at your fingertips. If you need to do further research on a particular topic, get the person’s contact information. You also want to tell the customer that you are going to look into the situation further and that you will contact them as soon as possible.

Important Note: It’s better to get contact information and provide the right information than to guess and give the wrong answer! Being inconsistent makes your business look bad and will anger customers more.

Install a Live Chat on Your Website Today

Remember, every chat is a little different! You may not be able to prepare for every message you may receive; but if you follow these five tips, you can operate a successful live chat feature that your customers will love. Want to learn more about how a brand can benefit from live chats? Take a look at our case study!
