What’s the one thing every professional wants? The answer is better results in less time.

As a digital marketer, you can achieve these things by investing in the proper tools. That’s right, a strong tech stack is one of the best ways to increase your personal productivity and achieve team-wide goals that will help propel your company forward.

Keep reading to learn the top five tools to improve your digital marketing workflow so that you can achieve success as efficiently as possible.

1. CloudApp

Digital marketing is all about communication.

If you can’t communicate with your team, you won’t be able to craft effective marketing campaigns. And if you can’t communicate with your target audience, you won’t be able to sell many products. Fortunately, CloudApp helps with both internal and external communication.

CloudApp is a visual communication platform that combines screenshot, screen recording, and image annotation features into one intuitive solution.

  • Screenshots: CloudApp’s industry-leading screenshot tool will allow you to capture anything on your computer screen with a few clicks of your mouse.
  • Screen Recordings: Need more than a screenshot? With CloudApp’s screen recorder tool, you can record your screen, as well as your face via your computer’s webcam.
  • Image Annotations: If a picture is worth a thousand words, what’s an annotated picture worth? Clarify your images with arrows, emojis, and text inside CloudApp.

Stop typing long-winded emails that your colleagues don’t want to read. Send them a quick screenshot to illustrate exactly what you mean. Annotate it for added clarity. Then send a quick recording of yourself speaking your mind to ensure you’re on the same page.

You can use CloudApp to communicate with your target audience, too. Use the tool to shoot detailed software demos, add images and GIFs to your blog posts, and more.

The best part about CloudApp is that it’s free to start. Sign up today and supercharge your digital marketing workflow with the world’s leading visual communication platform.

2. MailChimp

Email marketing may be an “old school” digital marketing channel, but it’s still every bit as effective as it was 10 years ago. Don’t believe me? Try these stats on for size:

When it comes to email marketing software, MailChimp is a recognized leader because it’s both easy to use and powerful. The platform features more than 100 professionally-designed email templates, advanced automation capabilities, detailed analytics, and more.

MailChimp also integrates with popular tools like WordPress, Shopify, Salesforce, Zendesk, and Stripe, which means it’s designed to fit into your preferred digital marketing workflow.

To crush email marketing with MailChimp, sign up for one of its four plans:

“Free” which will give you access to basic features at no charge, “Essentials” or “Standard” which include additional capabilities for $9.99 – $14.99 a month, or “Premium” which has every professional feature you could ask for and costs $299 a month.

Note: Your total price will depend on the size of your list. The more subscribers you have, the more MalChimp will charge you to use their email marketing platform.

3. Sprout Social

If your business isn’t on social media, do you even have a business?

For a lot of people, the answer is “not really.” The problem is, social media is a HUGE time suck—or at least it used to be… Sprout Social was designed to change that.

Sprout Social is a social media management tool that allows users to plan and publish content to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn from a single dashboard. All you have to do is login, select your desired platform, and schedule your posts. Sprout Social will then publish it for you at the specified time, freeing you up to tackle other business initiatives.

Sprout Social also includes social media engagement, reporting, listening, and employee advocacy tools. Reply to comments, view in-depth analytics reports, uncover trends, and empower your team to become company advocates from inside Sprout Social, too.

Get more done in less time and improve your digital marketing workflow with Sprout Social’s free 30-day trial. If you enjoy using the tool, sign up for the “Standard,” “Professional,” or “Advanced” which range from $89 to $279 a month depending on the features you need access to and whether you sign up for annual or month-to-month billing.

4. Semrush

Organic traffic is the Holy Grail of digital marketing, which is why most digital marketers are obsessed with things like on-page SEO, link-building, and content optimization.

Semrush is here to make all of these things easier. For example, you can use Semrush to:

  • Audit Your Website: Semrush will scan your website for more than 130 technical and SEO mistakes so that you can fix them and rank higher in Google search results.
  • Research Keywords: Want to know which keywords to target? Semrush will help you pinpoint the most valuable keywords based on search volume, difficulty, and more.
  • Build Your Backlink Portfolio: The highest ranking sites have deep backlink portfolios. Semrush will help you identify backlink opportunities so you can build yours.
  • Design Content Strategies: Content marketing is powerful—if you do it right. Semrush will help you brainstorm content ideas, plan your editorial calendar, and make sure every piece you publish is optimized for SEO.
  • Analyze Your Competitors: How do your competitors approach SEO? Semrush will give you insights into their best strategies so that you don’t have to start from scratch.

We won’t lie, Semrush isn’t cheap. But if you’re serious about SEO, content marketing, and organic traffic, you should definitely consider paying $99.95+ a month for access to this tool.

It takes a lot of time to research keywords, optimize web pages, and do all the other things required to drive organic traffic. Semrush will improve your digital marketing workflow by helping you get better results in this area in WAY less time.

5. Google

Google makes a slew of handy tools for business professionals. But, in our opinion, none of them are as important to digital marketers as Google Docs and Google Analytics.

  • Google Docs: This online word processor is the perfect place to draft blog posts, ebooks and whitepapers, website copy, PPC ads—anything, really. There are two things that make Docs great: first, you can easily access it on any device, which means your content is always within arm’s reach. And second, it’s incredibly easy to collaborate with colleagues in real time, directly from inside the app.
  • Google Analytics: If you own a website, you need an analytics tool to help you assess its performance. Who are your visitors, where are they coming from, and how do they interact with your content? When you know the answers to these questions, you can optimize your site for your target audience. Google Analytics is a popular tool that will give you the insights you need to improve your brand’s online footprint.

Craft valuable content in less time and gain a better understanding of your audience with Google Docs and Analytics, two tools you need to improve your digital marketing workflow.

Supercharge Your Digital Marketing Workflow

To achieve better results in less time, you need to improve your digital marketing workflow. The five tools listed above will help you do just that. Give each of them a try to see if they work for you and your team. We’re confident you’ll enjoy your increased productivity!

Overview

Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic is an orthopaedic group with 23 board certified and board eligible orthopaedic surgeons plus 6 clinic locations throughout Wake County, North Carolina. Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic dominates their market with 58% of the market share in Raleigh despite being in a competitive marketplace with UNC Healthcare, Duke & Emerge all within a few miles of each other. They want to have their marketing keep them relevant and help them outrank competitors.

Overview Image 1

The “Crux”

Although Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic dominated their market, it didn’t show when it came to their internet footprint. Raleigh had the following issues:

Website

  • Slow, outdated website that wasn’t mobile friendly
  • A myriad of technical issues for SEO and Website Maintenance

SEO

  • Inconsistent listing and citation information
  • Thin content that wasn’t keyword optimized

SEM

  • 98% of Conversions coming from branded search queries. Primarily “raleigh orthopedic”
  • Dynamic Search Ads were dominating spend on clicks for branded keywords not allowing for prospecting ad groups to perform
  • 0 negative keywords
  • 0 Responsive Search Ads

Analytics

  • No goal tracking to help provide ROI
  • Google Adwords call tracking not firing despite 100% of Google Ads conversions coming from call extensions

The Strategy

Today’s Business took a multi-channel approach to Raleigh Orthopaedic’s campaign, combining SEO and SEM and supplementing it with the Website Development team for maintenance and supplemental SEO efforts. Overall, the strategy within these channels focused on.

General

  • Keyword Research
    Targeting [Service] + [Location] Keywords
    Targeting speciality + “doctor/surgeon/specialist”
Ensure Brand strength on current keywords
  • Help transition to a new patient CRM
General icon

SEO

  • Update blog structure for URLs, categories, and tags to better utilize the content AND improve rankings
  • General Onsite Work and Technical Clean Up
  • Create Urgent Care related content for commonly asked questions
SEO icon

Analytics

  • Reconfigure Analytics for better data and goal tracking.
Analytics icon

Website

  • A patch-over website update: rather than creating a whole new website, TB updated framework while keeping the current website WordPress theme. This was to improve speed.
  • Update the homepage and location pages, followed by the service pages. This was to improve keyword rankings, UX, and conversion generation.
Website icon

SEM

  • Simplified & Optimized Campaign + Ad Group structure to focus on relevant & lucrative prospecting keywords like “urgent care” and “surgeon” search queries
  • Added 25 negative keywords across all campaigns
  • Optimized landing pages to align with search queries
  • Optimized Campaign Daily Budgets so that non-brand keywords can get more clicks

The Results

Despite the campaign starting in the middle of the pandemic, Today’s Business was able to create improvements across multiple digital channels for Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic leading to substantial growth in majority of the marketing key performance indicators (KPIs) we measure.

SEM

Before Today’s Business took over the SEM for Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic the only keywords that drove conversions were brand name keywords. In other words, the practice was spending money on clicks for users who were searching for “raleigh orthopaedic clinic” and other similar branded keywords. A lot of these people were likely already patients or had intentions of becoming a Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic patient.

Today’s Business adjusted the Google Ads budget to focus on acquiring new patients who may not be familiar with Raleigh Orthoapedic Clinic. You will see below that after Today’s Business adjusted the SEM campaigns the practice went from getting nearly all conversions from branded search terms to now having a healthy mix of branded vs. non-branded search term conversions.

SEM Conversions by Keyword Type (Q1 2021)

914

Branded Conversions

Example Branded Search Terms:
“raleigh orthopedic”, “raleigh orthopedic urgent care”, “raleigh orthopedics”, “raleigh orthopedic garner”, “dr. barker raleigh ortho”

234

Non-Branded Conversions

Example Non-Branded Search Terms:
“orthopedic urgent care”, “orthopedic urgent care near me”, “best knee doctor in raleigh nc”, “raleigh orthopedic surgeons”, “orthopedic near me”, “torn meniscus”, “hip specialist near me”, “best knee replacement doctors in nc”

Average Monthly Conversions

2000

Appointment Clicks

Per month

5500

Phone call clicks

Per month

Takeaways from the Team:

“Overall this is one of the most difficult campaigns to analyze because it started right in the middle of COVID, and orthopedics search volumes have been down from previous levels. What we have been seeing is rankings continuing to move higher, so despite lower search volume, we’re getting more clicks. The website is faster than it has ever been, and we are now able to get a better sense of their lead generation because of proper ROI attribution. At 22.5% conversion rate based on phone calls and booking appointment clicks, Raleigh Orthopaedic is poised for exemplary growth as the pandemic lessens in impact.”

Forrest Old

Sr. SEO Strategist at TB

“Looking back on this campaign almost a year since we started I couldn’t be more proud of the TB team. Our team is excellent at keeping things straightforward and effective. People often try to make digital marketing so complicated. When you work with the TB team, we make sure that we’re maximizing your ROI, but also ensure that clients know what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. There are so many times where people say “Wow, you make it seem so easy.” or “How did we not think of that.” It really comes down to experience and I think that is what allowed our team to shine here.”

Joe Sanfilippo

Manager, Growth & Partnerships at TB

“Updating the framework to give us more control over the site was key. It allowed the site speed to be improved, and also gave us the flexibility to make and apply UI/UX changes. All of these combined lead to a better visitor experience and journey, which contributes to the overall increase.”

Justin Ramsammy

Website Project Manager at TB

“An updated design was crucial in bringing our multi-channel approach all together. Our goal with design was to create a more modern aesthetic, primarily focusing on a mobile-first approach to enhance the user experience. Overall, the new designs help guide the user throughout the site by strategically using color to define specific call-to-actions, a redesigned navigation, and the implementation of a progressive footer navigation on mobile.”

Mario Teixeira

Graphic Designer at TB

2020 represented the first year that Ricciardi Brothers was going to be able to properly utilize its e-commerce platform for the entire campaign season. Of course, mother nature threw everyone a curveball this year with the Coronavirus pandemic. As the 3 summer campaigns arrived, Today’s Business needed to:

Takeaways from the Team:

“SEO success was the culmination of year-round efforts that have seen traffic increase annually through search. COVID certainly helped during the Memorial Day campaign, as business experienced an influx of online traffic due to the quarantine. However, traffic was already improving and has remained at twice the performance of last year. By having each campaign work together and help generate additional reviews for Google My Business, the future looks more promising than ever.”

Forrest Old

Sr. SEO Strategist

“Offering free paint samples was a game changer for these campaigns. Not only were we able to drive users to the ecommerce site to order their free sample, we were able to acquire email addresses through lead generation forms, which added thousands of new users to our email list. This strategy allowed us to grow our customer base substantially during a difficult time, which will be incredibly beneficial for continued success on the ecommerce front.”

Amanda Hatton

Sr. Social Media Strategist

“The adjustments that were made on the landing page to have people click on the CTA’s to the shop site with the code attached played a major role in the number of transitions from our digital efforts. With the adjustments to the YouTube and Remarketing campaigns followed by Search, the future looks bright for brand awareness and the increase in sales for non brand”

Email marketing is an extremely lucrative marketing channel that is known for providing a great return on investment. It is effective for both acquiring new customers and keeping existing ones. It’s important to be deploying the best practices in your emails that will drive real conversions. Here are some of the top tactics for getting the most out of what you’re sending to your target market’s inbox.

Include a Compelling Subject Line

It’s all about personalization. A generic or lengthy subject line won’t give you the results that you’re looking for. Keep it engaging. When you customize your subject line to the audience you’re trying to reach, you’ll start to see more conversions on your email campaigns.

Keep It Mobile Friendly

Conversions are happening on mobile now more than ever. The most effective email campaigns are optimized for mobile and those are the campaigns that see the best click through rates and conversions.

Segment Your Email Lists

Did you know that email open rates are 14% higher for campaigns utilizing segmented email lists? You can separate your lists based on preferences, new subscribers and whether or not they purchased, just to name a few. This depends on the goals of your business and what you’re trying to accomplish with your campaigns. Segmenting email lists give you more control over the messaging that you are sending out and drives better results.

Utilize a Strong CTA

The call to action is the touchdown pass to a conversion. Every email you send should incorporate a CTA that is uniquely targeted towards your audience and relevant to the content you are promoting.

Define and Monitor Performance

Being able to determine the success of your email marketing initiatives is extremely important. Here at Today’s Business, we are constantly monitoring key performance indicators that provide transparency for how well your campaign is doing and how it can improve.

If you aren’t seeing the conversions you expected to see through email marketing, then it’s time to rethink your strategy. Our team backs everything up with the numbers and creates email campaigns that are designed to convert. If you’re ready to reboot your campaign or start one for the first time, let’s talk.

Leave the traditional ways of mailing in the past! With a little help from email marketing, growing your company can be easier than you think. Email marketing is an efficient way to market your business, while creating a mailing list and generating new leads in the process. Learn more about this digital advertising tactic and how it can improve your business.

What is Email Marketing?

In its simplest form, email marketing is the act of sending a custom branded, professional email on your company’s behalf. While most companies use it to promote advertisements, request for business, or solicit donations, any email communication is considered email marketing if it helps to build customer loyalty, trust, or recognition. It is an efficient way to stay connected with customers while also promoting business.

Benefits of Email Marketing for Your Business

  • Inexpensive cost for your company

Email marketing is a cost-effective tool that allows you to directly reach your audience. From small businesses to large corporations, all companies can benefit from email marketing. Forget about the printing and mailing costs that quickly add up. All you need is a template, a good marketing strategy, and a mailing list to drive users to your site! Generating traffic to your website boosts sales, which is important if you want to make a profit. According to Campaign Monitor, every $1 spent on email marketing in 2016 had an average ROI of $44.

  • Build trust and boost brand awareness

Sending regular emails (without spamming your audience’s inbox) is a great way to connect with both new and old customers. Not only does it keep your company on their mind, but if you segment your email list, you will be able to send specific people the content they want to see and engage with.

For example, if you sell both women and girls’ clothing, half of your email list may be interested in receiving emails about the latest products and promotions for women, while the other half may only be interested in emails relating to girls’ products. Instead of sending your entire list every email you create, segmenting your list allows you to send specific emails to specific audiences.

  • You can measure your statistics

With help from Google Analytics and email automation platforms, you are able to track how many people open your emails, how many people click through to your website, conversion rate, etc. Not only does it let you see a direct ROI, but these stats are crucial insight to help improve your email marketing campaign.

Measuring statistics allows you to get to know your audience better. You can learn a lot about your target market, including: age, purchase history, special days like birthdays, location, etc. Knowing this information is helpful to keep your current customers and generate new leads.

Tips for Your Email Marketing Campaign

  • Keep it short & sweet

The more content you stuff into an email, the less focused your audience will be. A crowded email blast can have customers feeling overwhelmed, with no idea what action to take. People want to read one main message. With that in mind, be sure to design your email blasts with one clear call to action.

Another important reason why emails should be kept short is because most emails are read on mobile. There’s no way around it; according to Pew Research Center, 88% of smartphone users actively check email on their phones. With that in mind, cut the fluff and keep your emails concise.

  • Have a specific call to action (CTA)

Your main goal of an email blast is to get your subscribers to do something. Make sure what you want them to do is obvious! One clear CTA directs users on what they should do next. Multiple CTAs in one email may lead to a confused user, making them less likely to click altogether.

It’s important that your CTA is inline with your email subject. You don’t want to talk about your latest blog and have the link lead to your shop page. Doing so will hurt your trust and credibility with your customers, making them more likely to unsubscribe.

  • Encourage your website visitors to sign up

To run an email marketing campaign, you need subscribers to send your emails to! One of the best ways to do this is by incorporating a sign-up form on all pages of your website. To quickly acquire subscribers, you can offer an incentive to signing up. Whether it be a free item, promotional discount, a white paper, etc., the sweeter the deal, the more likely someone will be to subscribe.

Email marketing has taken the digital advertising industry by storm. Now more than ever before, companies are turning to email marketing to better reach their ideal target market. Whether you’re looking for ways to improve your email blast’s results or you are considering if your business should begin an email marketing campaign, use our best practices below to improve both click through rates and ROI.

How to Boost Your Email Marketing Performance

1. Create an Intriguing Subject Line

The subject line is one of the most important elements of an email blast. No matter how great the content of your email blast is, no one will see it if your subject line is boring. You want to create a rapport with your email subscribers so they are more inclined to open future emails. When creating a subject line, you need to figure out how to inform your subscribers of what’s inside, while also catching their attention. Think of how many email lists you are subscribed to and which ones you actually open. Chances are, you open email blasts because you either are a long time supporter of the brand or because they caught your attention. Be sure that your subject line does not come off as spammy though, as that could lead to lots of people unsubscribing.

2. Improve Click Through Rates with a Call-To-Action

In terms of what you want to get out of your email blast, the Call-To-Action (CTA) is the biggest key. There are many different CTAs and the one you should use depends on the content in your email. For example, if you’re in the retail industry and your biggest goal is to sell your products, a perfect CTA would be “Shop Now.” However, maybe you are a plastic surgeon and you have a new procedure you are offering. In this instance “Shop Now” wouldn’t be the way to go. Your target market is going to want to learn more about the procedure before they schedule their appointments. Instead, a CTA along the lines of “Learn More” would be more appropriate.

3. Come Up with an Incentive People Actually Want

People love incentives! How many times have you seen something that says “Subscribe now and get 10% off your next purchase” or “Subscribe now and get a free product?” Incentives are vital to grow your email subscribers and are extremely effective. The type of incentive you want to use to entice people to sign up for your email blast is entirely up to you. Just make sure it’s something people actually want. You’re not going to get many people to sign up if the incentive reads “Subscribe now for unique content.” Of course an email blast is going to have unique content! If it didn’t, why is it being sent out in the first place?

4. Figure Out the Right Frequency

The number of email blasts you send out on a monthly basis can impact your subscribers tremendously. If you don’t currently have an email blast, it is recommended that you start out at a minimum of one email per month. At the very least, this will allow your business to stay top-of-mind among your consumers. This also proves to your consumers that every month new and exciting things are happening with your company. If they were to opt out and unsubscribe, they’d be missing important news, sales and other updates. The ideal number of emails sent out per month will depend on the industry you are in. Make sure you are tracking your emails so you have a baseline of data. You will notice different trends with your engagement and click through rates, which will help take your email marketing campaign to the next level.

5. Content is Key

Last but certainly not least is content. Content, similar to your subject line, is what makes or breaks your email blast. Yes, your subject line is critical because it makes people open your email. Now that you got your consumers engaged, you have to keep their attention with your content. Each email you sent out should have one focus. Having too many CTAs in one email blast will lower your engagement and click through rate. Always think: “What is in this for the consumer? Why should the consumer interact with this content?” When looking for content to fill your email blast with, be sure to include a healthy mixture of articles, videos, and special sales (to keep them wanting more). Keep industry trends in mind, and subscribe to other company’s email blasts in your industry to come up with creative ideas.
